You never thought this day would come — the age when you realize you’ve outgrown the frat parties and day keggers and prefer engagement parties and outdoor brunches instead. No, this doesn’t mean you’re getting old. It just means your tastes are refining and that your time is precious. It means you want to strengthen the connections you’ve made over college and make your close friends feel special on important milestones.
To tell you the truth, I’m in my late 20s and I’m admittedly clueless when it comes to fancy party planning. I’d like to think I was the most awesome host when it came to themed ragers and pre-games back in college (thank you very much) — but what if you've outgrown all that? What if your best friend from high school chooses you to be her maid of honor or your sister asks you to plan her baby shower? Panic mode.
When I discovered Lauren Conrad’s latest book Celebrate, it was like the party planning gods answered my prayers. Former star of The Hills turned lifestyle and fashion icon, Lauren Conrad is actually the Martha Stewart of our generation — with better hair.
Her 9th and newest book Celebrate is the perfect “Welcome to Adulthood” guide for ladies who want to plan a special something for their BFFs — or even just a nice dinner gathering — but don’t know where to begin.
My initial thought upon picking up the hefty hardcover copy was that this would make a great coffee table book. But soon after the first page, it became more than that.
From the first page, you immediately connect with LC, as she shares personal anecdotes about her childhood (They’re Just Like Us!) and what celebrations mean to her. Her tone is genuine and friendly and she really eases a newbie like me into the world of sophisticated party planning.
Once you get to the heart of the book, it’s time to roll up your sleeves. LC breaks it all down, dividing the book between Prep and Party, and fills the pages with budget-friendly tips, things to take into account (ie. stocking the bar and even etiquette) and creative DIY ideas.

I was pleasantly surprised with the amount of detail LC went into planning each type of party, but looking through the book’s dreamy photos, I was already sold. Celebrate’s images mimic her stunning, washed out Instagram feed, packed with perfect pink and pastel everything. Though the parties look lavish, all her ideas actually seem doable — from the DIY housewarming piñata to the Moroccan-inspired brunch menu.
Obviously, there’s a big Wedding section, equipped with recommended timelines, rehearsal party menus and the works, but my personal favorite part? The Clambake. Who wouldn’t want to impress friends with this lobster and beer-filled beach soiree?
At the end of the day, Celebrate is a fun and practical guide that’s perfect for ladies who want to add a little elegance to their adult parties. You could tell Lauren Conrad puts in a lot of love and effort into planning and preparing for these occasions — and it’s definitely inspired me to do the same.
