The Perfect Wine Pairing Guide


Whether you're new to wine or someone who sticks to their usual Pinot, it's never too late to expand your wine horizon.

Red, white, champagne and sparkling wine offer such distinct flavors — it's important to know which wine compliments certain meals. It's easy to say that we're all "lovers of wine," but perhaps being familiar with each of their unique characteristics and tastes would allow us to us to appreciate each gulp just a little bit more.

Here's our Bijou-approved wine pairing guide to help give you that "wow" factor as soon as you take a bite and a sip!

Red Wine: Go Red with Red

Often times, you will hear the four magic words that fall in the "red" category: Merlot, Cabernet, Malbec and Pinot. Although their aromas and flavors vary independently from each other, they still possess a common mix of full-bodied fruit cherry, plums, clove, cinnamon, pepper, licorice, spices and a hint of oak. Red wine usually pairs excellent with red meat such as beef, lamb chops, duck, filet mignon and prosciutto, but you can also create a lovely cheese plate. Aim for the following selections: Cheddar, ripe brie, gorgonzola, goat cheese along with walnuts, hazelnuts and chestnuts. Add a hint of extra honey and voila!!

White Wine: Go Light with White

When it comes to choosing the whites, Chardonnay, Sauvignon and Riesling are the most well-known. It's earthy and nutty flavors normally pair well with grilled white chicken, turkey and seafood dishes such as sea bass, halibut and ceviche.

Champagne and Sparkling Wine: Feel the Bubbles
