5 Of The Best Witchy Movies

It's officially The Season Of The Witch and we are jumping in broomsticks first. We love to start off October by watching all of our witchy favorites. These films vary from scary to funny to campy and everything in between. When it comes to witches, there is truly something for everyone.

1. The VVitch

Good goddess we love this movie so much, so much so, that Alaina got a tattoo of Black Phillip on her leg with the infamous quote, "Wouldst thou like to live deliciously?" This movie takes place in 1630s puritanical New England. A family of 7 are shunned from town for being too pious (LOL) and are forced to live in the wilderness. They face the elements, dying crops and a witch in the woods who is coming. to. get. them. Must see 10/10 witches floating in the woods.

2. Practical Magic

This movie convinced me that I, indeed, do have a little witch in me. The year? 1998. The setting? An island off the coast of Massachusetts. The what? Witches Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest raise their witch nieces, Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman, to dance around and drink margaritas with them. Doesn't that sound SO FUN?! It really is, until they accidentally kill a man (don't worry, he's a bad man) and then bring him back from the dead only to kill him again. Witches, amirite?! It's actually rom-com tho so don't get spooked. 10/10 would watch every day.

3. Hocus Pocus

This movie is the A Christmas Story of Halloween. Max and his sister, Dani, move to Salem (whaddup MASS!) and accidentally bring three witches from the 17th century back from the dead. You've all seen this movie and we honestly don't need to tell you about it, and if you haven't seen it, just nod and pretend that you have and go home and watch it right. this. minute. It's filled with first crush material and Thora Birch refers to boobs as yabbos. Also, just wanted to shout out the kitty cat, Thackery Binx – it's fun to say and, as I suspected, fun to type. 10/10 I'll Put A Spell On You goodness.

4. The Witches

If Hocus Pocus is the A Christmas Story of Halloween, then The Witches is the Home Alone. Based on the Roald Dahl book of the same title, the movie version gets it totally right! This movie kept me up at night as a kid. I don't even think I was scared as much as I wanted Anjelica Huston's capes. A young orphan, Luke, is taken to to England on a holiday with his Grandmother. It just so happens that there is a convention of witches there, planning to turn all of the children in England into mice. 10/10 Grand High Witches.

5. The Craft

You know, like The Spice Girls but make it goth. OBVIOUSLY this movie is a BIG MOOD for us. Sarah Bailey is new in town and she befriends a group of misfit girls who practice witchcraft. Together, they make their own coven, curse people and are seemingly unstoppable, until things get out of hand. Typical, teen girl stuff. 10/10 choker necklaces.
