It's the most WONDERFUL time of the year! Cookies, presents, friends & fam, and holiday movies – yes please! We love nothing more than cozying up with a festive film and a scented candle on these holly jolly evenings.
We asked the Candle Coven for their favorite holiday movies of all time and compiled a list of their most popular choices PLUS the best Bijou Candles to pair with them. Giddy-up, giddy-up, giddy-up let's go!
1. Love Actually
This fan fave made the top of our list and for good reason! This early aughts instant classic is basically 8 holiday movies in one. We follow the lives of 8 different couples in loosely interrelated tales during the frantic holiday season in London, England (every heard of it!?). Come for the turtlenecks and stay for Hugh Grant dancing to the Pointer Sisters.
Candle Pairing: Watch with our Sarah • Ginger & Clove Candle. Zesty notes of citrus mingle with fresh ginger and a base of warm clove. This blend is equal parts fun and nostalgic and pairs perfectly with dulcet tones of Alan Rickman admitting he was wrong for doing my girl Emma Thompson like that!
2. A Christmas Story
I think it would be a Christmas Crime to not include this 24-hours-on-repeat holiday fave. Fun fact about me (who asked?!), my birthday is Xmas eve and as I was born in the 80s this NEW film quickly became very important to me. I identified with it as a babe of the wintertide and watched it SO many times in a row that I broke our family vhs copy. Is this the signal of an obsessive personality in a very young baby woman? Probably. But is it also a sign that this movie is perfect and deserves to be obsessed over? Absolutely.
Candle Pairing: Our Ingrid • Pine & Balsam candle will transport you to Ralphie's living room on Christmas Day. The tinsel is glimmering in the sunlight, the scent of the Christmas tree is wafting through the air, Randy is sound asleep with his toy zeppelin, and there's one final present yet to be unwrapped...
3. Home Alone 1 & 2
We put both of these faves together because they are equally flawless and you honestly shouldn't go through the holiday season without viewing both. Kevin is a true mastermind and should have been revered by many as a SURVIVOR. Instead he gets flack for ordering room service?! Take several seats mom and dad (although Catherine O'Hara can truly do no wrong), the boy had to EAT SOMETHING while you were in France.
Candle Pairing: Watch while burning Greta • Bourbon & Vanilla. Notes of vanilla bean and warm woods smell like sugar cookies by the fireplace left for especially for Santa.
4. Meet Me In St. Louis
This movie might be solely responsible for my Judy Garland obsession. Yes, of course, she's amazing in the Wizard of Oz, but the scene where she sings "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" while wearing that red velvet gown has been emblazoned into my mind since I was a baby. This movie is directed by Vincente Minelli and we all know that Judy and Vincente make some pretty incredible things together (I'M TALKING ABOUT LIZA MINELLI).
Candle Pairing: OBVIOUSLY you must burn the Judy • Cornbread & Maple Butter Candle while watching this classique. Sweet maple mingles with salted butter as smooth as Judy's iconic vocal stylings.
5. The Santa Clause
I'm going to be honest with you, I didn't realized that the name of this movie was a double entendre until just now. Scott Calvin accidentally kills Santa and, as per the "I accidentally killed Santa" CLAUSE (see what they did there), Scott must now become the acting Santa. This movie is a nice reminder that we should all believe in a little magic around Christmastime. (Also, it's Alaina's absolute favorite so we had to include it!)
Candle Pairing: Since this is Alaina's favorite, let's pair it with her all-time favorite candle, Lucille • Spiced Orange. This citrus and spice blend reminds us of a steaming cup of mulled wine on a chilly winter's eve.
