Our Story
Hi, we're Jocelyn and Alaina!
We met doing improv comedy in New York City, got married, and discovered pretty quickly that we shared a few obsessions: cult classics, a good graphic tee, and scented candles. We could quote every line of Drop Dead Gorgeous. We had opinions about every season of Buffy. And we burned through a lot of expensive candles that all looked the same.
So in the fall of 2017, we made one that didn't. A fragrance that could hold its own at any department store counter, named after the women and movies and moments we couldn't stop thinking about. Alaina came from art and design. Jocelyn came from luxury beauty and fragrance. Bijou was the overlap.
The tees came next, because some references deserve to be worn. If you know, you know, and if you know, we made it for you!
Nine years later, that's still the whole idea. Every candle and every tee is a small tribute to something we love: a witch from a 90s movie, a diva who did it her way, a Liza Minnelli era. All of it designed by the two of us.
Since we started, Bijou has shipped to tens of thousands of homes, earned thousands of five-star reviews, and been featured in BuzzFeed, Cosmopolitan, Teen Vogue, Allure, Apartment Therapy, and Refinery29. We also host the Candle Coven Podcast, where we talk about all of this at length.
